The CCMA is holding its annual Commissioners’ Indaba from 08 to 09 December 2016 at the Birchwood Hotel & Conference Centre, Ekurhuleni. The theme of the 2016 Indaba is “20 Years of Changing Workplaces, Changing Lives”. About 350 CCMA Commissioners and invited guests will attend the event. However, the first day session on 8 December 2016 is open to the media.
The programme will entail reflecting on the past twenty years, which have been a challenging period for South Africa, the labour market and the CCMA. As well as sharing ideas on how the CCMA can continue to make a difference to the lives of its everyday users and the community at large.
The focus of this Indaba is on the workplace, associated dynamics and challenges, and the CCMA’s role regarding workplace change and transformation. The Indaba programme addresses the following questions:
What is the nature of the underpinning sources to these challenges, at both workplace and the broader environmental levels?
- What is the current role and impact of the CCMA in addressing these challenges?
- Looking ahead, what trajectory should the CCMA pursue? What needs to be done for the CCMA to further play a dynamic and high impact role as a workplace change agent?
- What must be the role of every CCMA commissioner, regardless of whether mediating, facilitating or arbitrating a dispute?
- What learnings can be drawn from the international experience of similar organisations to the CCMA playing a dynamic change agent role?
Journalists are invited to attend. Media questions and answers sessions will be held after both the morning and afternoon session (12:45 & 17:00)
