To attain a high-level productivity within their role, employees must feel empowered and inspired by their surroundings. The Commission for Conciliation Mediation & Arbitration (CCMA) believes that the future of work is not just about artificial intelligence and automation or the impact of work on the workplace but also about everyone in the workplace.
The Honourable Minister of Labour, Ms Mildred Oliphant will deliver the Keynote address at the 2nd Annual CCMA Shop Stewards and Union Officials Conference under the theme “The Future of Work” will focus on the necessity of developing a pipeline of globally aware and empathetic professionals. In an increasingly connected world where mutual understanding and harmony are more important than ever, successful leaders need to collaborate across organizational and cultural boundaries and to build consensus and commitment among groups with different perspectives and values. In short, understanding the world and being empathetic to different perspectives is a fundamental element of leadership.
The 2nd Annual CCMA Shop Stewards and Union Officials Conference is designed to help, shop stewards, union officials, policymakers and everyone interested in labour matters who understand how the workplace and workforce are changing. The programme will focus on:
i. Collective Bargaining: Reflections of the past and expectations going forward: wage trends, conditions of employment and Collective Bargaining strategies and tactics.
II. 2017 Industrial Action Report: Analysing the state of labour relations in South Africa
III. An investigation into the causes of violent strikes in South Africa: Lessons from foreign law and possible solutions
IV. The Implementation of the National Minimum Wage: Anticipated impact on Collective Bargaining and Sectoral Determinations, new CCMA jurisdictions, envisaged impact on the CCMA’s caseload and accompanying institutional and operational readiness to absorb the envisaged impact
V. Revisiting the importance of Dispute Management and Prevention in view of the current context of South Africa’s labour relations.
